The Mountains Are Calling… And I Must Go…
Carvers Gap is the gateway to the World Famous Roan Highlands and The Worlds Largest Natural Rhododendron Garden in the World. Roan Mountain is not actually one mountain, but a high ridge about 7 miles long. It ranges from a height of 6,286 feet at Roan High Knob to a low of 5,512 feet at Carver’s Gap.

Roan Mountain itself contains five sub-peaks, and is divided into two sections by Carvers Gap.
To the south is Roan High Knob and Roan High Bluff, which includes The Worlds Largest Natural Rhododendron Gardens in the world.
To the north is the section of Roan Mountain known as The Roan Highlands, which includes three peaks: Round Bald, Jane Bald, and Grassy Ridge Bald. There are two additional peaks in the Roan Highlands, those being Little Hump and Big Hump.
The Carvers gap project is a community based effort to preserve the heritage of the area, provide educational information for conservation efforts, and provide information for visitors who wish to come explore and enjoy the area. This Website will be a constant work in progress.
As we continue to grow and refine the website, anyone who wishes to submit photos is more than welcome to. As well as your experiences in the area, suggestions for content you think should be added to the site, or any other information pertinent to Carvers Gap, Roan Mountain and the surrounding area.
Our goal is to provide a centralized location for future generations, visitors, hikers ,conservationist and any others to learn and share all things about the Carvers Gap, Roan Mountain and the surrounding area.
